In January of 2011, the Peñasquitos Emergency Response Council began meetings with neighborhood stakeholders aimed towards the goal of developing a Community Emergency Response Plan to coordinate the efforts of existing City and County of San Diego Emergency Planning Groups, National and International Emergency Support Organizations, local businesses, community residents and other local volunteers in the event of an actual catastrophic event or emergency. The stated purpose of the Council was not to replace any group or existing plan, but to coordinate all efforts in order to provide the greatest sense of community and security possible for all who live and work in the Plan area. We realize that in the strength of our friends and neighbors, we all stand the best chance of surviving a major event.
With that in mind, The Council has evolved into an educational platform aimed at increasing awareness of potential disasters and ideas to prepare individuals and families in case of a disaster. PERC has sponsored monthly classes, a local Preparedness Fair, and other local activities to help make our community aware and prepared.
